In a major push to modernize and secure identity records, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Chandigarh Regional Office, has rolled out a large-scale Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) drive across Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with the Directorate of Samagra Shiksha, J&K.

The first phase of the initiative sees Aadhaar update camps operational in 1,800 government and private schools, targeting children aged 0–5 and 15–17 years. Officials emphasized that the updates will be conducted with minimal disruption to academic schedules.

“This mission-mode drive is reaching even the most remote and hilly areas, thanks to coordinated efforts by schools, the education department, and Aadhaar partners,” UIDAI officials said.

The campaign aims to provide students with error-free Aadhaar records, crucial for registration in competitive exams such as JEE, NEET, and UPSC, as well as for accessing scholarships, admissions, and government welfare schemes.

State Project Manager, UIDAI J&K, Shoaib Mohmad Khan, urged parents to ensure their children participate in the camps, stressing that timely updates are key to keeping Aadhaar active and future-ready.

The campaign will continue in the coming days until all eligible schoolchildren across the Union Territory have completed their biometric updates.
