Made a mistake in your JEE Main form? Here’s what to do next

News Story

The clock is ticking for JEE Main 2026 aspirants. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will close registrations for Session 1 on November 25, at 5 pm, marking the first major milestone in the competitive exam cycle.

While thousands have already submitted their forms, many students are now confronting a different worry — mistakes in the application. From incorrect personal details to mismatched documents, even minor errors can trigger anxiety. But the process isn’t over yet.

NTA has built in a safety net: a short but crucial correction window.

Correction window opens December 1

Candidates who discover errors after submission will be able to edit select details between December 1 and December 2, 2025. Only certain fields will be editable, and the Agency is expected to publish a detailed public notice outlining what can and cannot be changed.

Fields not open for modification include:

·        Registered mobile number

·        Registered email ID

·        Aadhaar verification details (after validation)

Students are advised to keep supporting documents — particularly Aadhaar card, Class 10 records, category certificates and passport-size photographs — ready before the window opens.

Missed the deadline? Session 2 is still open

Candidates who fail to register today still have another opportunity. Registrations for Session 2 of JEE Main 2026 are expected to begin early January.

Skipping Session 1 does not prevent a student from appearing in the exam or qualifying for JEE Advanced, NITs, IIITs, or other centrally funded institutions. In fact, many aspirants intentionally appear only in the second round for better preparation or better alignment with board exams.

However, missing the first attempt means losing:

·        A trial run of the computer-based format

·        Data-driven insight into performance before the next attempt

For many students, Session 1 serves as valuable rehearsal.

Next steps after correction

Once changes are submitted, NTA will issue:

1.     Advance city intimation slip

2.     Admit card for Session 1

Both documents will include exam centre details, timings and shift allocation. Candidates scheduled to appear outside their city should plan travel in advance to avoid last-minute stress.

Bottom line

JEE Main aspirants still have space to correct errors and prepare strategically — but timelines are tight. Whether fixing a mistake or waiting for Session 2, the key now is discipline: follow official updates, organise documents and act before deadlines close.
