India’s junior scientists delivered a stellar performance at the 22nd
International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) held in Sirius, Russia, from
November 22 to December 1, 2025. The six-member Indian team clinched two gold
and four silver medals, standing tall among 24 competing nations and 140 young
participants.
The team comprised Aadish Jain (Haryana) and
Anmol Kumar (Punjab), each securing a gold medal, while Asmi Imandar
(Maharashtra), Sai Sarvan Muvvala (Telangana), Ruhan Mohanty (Bhubaneswar), and
Tejas SV (Tamil Nadu) earned silver medals. Over three intense exams—two theory
and one practical, each lasting three hours—participants were rigorously tested
on concepts spanning physics, chemistry, and biology.
India’s selection process was highly competitive,
starting with over 50,000 students nationwide who appeared for the Junior
Science Olympiad, conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers
across nearly 1,200 centres. The top performers advanced through multiple
advanced tests before the final team was chosen.
The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education
(HBCSE), under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, coordinated the
national Olympiad efforts, supported by the Department of Atomic Energy,
Department of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Human Resource
Development.
The Indian delegation was led by experts
Shirish Pathare (HBCSE–TIFR), Prof. Vedavyasa (retired, St. Joseph’s College),
and Aravinda S. (IISc Challakere), with scientific observer Geetha R.S. from
Vijaya College Bengaluru.
The
IJSO, dedicated to students aged 15 and below, continues to foster scientific
curiosity and excellence, challenging young minds to apply theoretical
knowledge through practical experiments and solidifying India’s place on the
global science stage.
